The Girl From the Other Side vol. 12
Had I engaged in a bit more planning and/or patience, I’d have talked about this volume when I did the podcast for the series. In the end, I was left hoping that the stories collected here would offer some additional insight into the ending we got with vol. 11. That’s not the case here. Vol. 12 is just a collection of short stories featuring Teacher and Shiva as they go about their daily business before things got bad for them later in the series.
So you’ll get to see what happens when Shiva gets bored and decides to start exploring her guardian’s room. As well as when she realizes that Teacher doesn’t sleep at night, which prompts her to try and stay up all night herself. Or when he decides to try his own hand at drawing after seeing Shiva’s promising work. There’s also the time when Teacher is made aware of the fact that he stinks and has to go take a bath.
As you’ve probably inferred from these descriptions, all of the stories here are bits of fluff that don’t really add anything to the series as a whole. They’re still adorable in their own way as the domestic vibe between this bright, energetic girl, and this reserved, demonic-looking adult is enjoyably cozy through and through. For anyone who thought that relationship was the real heart of the series, seeing it revived here is enough to make this volume worth a read.
