Cat + Gamer vol. 4

Three volumes in and Riko Kozakura thinks she has this whole cat ownership thing down.  So much so that when the idea of adding another cat to her household is raised, she jumps at it.  A few hoops later and Musubi now has a roommate.  But are they going to get along?  Will Musubi’s territoriality doom this new kitten to being put up for adoption again?  Or will this new kitten’s cuteness make Musubi into yesterday’s news?

I haven’t written about this series in a while because there really wasn’t anything more to say about it after that first volume.  It’s still a cute series that mines Riko’s gamer-centric worldview for light comedy as it relates to raising Musubi.  However, something has changed around here since vol. 3 came out…

…and that would be the fact that I got a cat of my own!  His name is Boots and while he can be quite a zoomer at times, he’s very adorable and cuddly in the way you want a cat to be.  He’s also quite curious and loves exploring everywhere he can around my place – especially the areas that he shouldn’t be in.

What I’m saying is that Riko’s exploits feel even more relatable now, and the addition of another cat changes up the formula in a pleasant way.  “Cat + Gamer” is still very much a formula, and it’s still one that’s only going to appeal to cat lovers who can appreciate (or just tolerate) Riko’s perspective on cat ownership.  That still applies to me, so I’ll keep reading this series as long as Dark Horse keeps publishing it.
