Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Part 6: Stone Ocean vol. 3
“There’s an enemy here, Jolyne! It’s an alligator! Run! Its invisible corpse is running across the floor!”
That sentence should give you an inkling as to just how crazy things are going to get in this volume. After the business with Debt Collector Mary Lynn Manson is wrapped up, the series plunges into its next arc as Jolyne has to get the disc containing Star Platinum’s information to the Speedwagon Foundation. Calling them up from the prison and arranging an exchange is easy enough, but getting to the meeting point, well, that’s a whole other matter. While Jolyne has a new friend in Weather Forecast, who can control the weather (natch), it’s the enemy stand Jumpin’ Jack Spark that reveals itself to be a challenge unlike either of them have faced before.
This is one of those rare “Jojo” volumes where its majority is focused on detailing a single conflict over the course of its length. It’s a good one, though, as the clash between Jolyne, Weather Forecast, and Jumpin’ Jack Spark takes on multiple forms and then gets taken to the next level once Pale Snake gets involved. While Pale Snake is the main villain of this arc, we actually get to see him struggle here as Weather Forecast pulls out a plot twist that Paul Thomas Anderson has approved of before and then improves on it. This all results in a third volume that has this latest “Part” feel like it’s going from strength to strength with each installment.
