Oshi no Ko vol. 10
The fallout from “Dig Deep One Chance’s” cosplay interview continues here, but it’s nothing to worry about. That’s because Ruby has a plan to deal with it all. She’s got the cosplayer who made the tweet ready to speak on the show, and the director behind the segment to… well, it’s best that you see his act of contrition for yourself. While all this could be seen as an effort by the aspiring idol to right a wrong, Ruby is actually pulling strings with a far more wide-ranging plan in mind that will see her ascend the showbiz ladder in the hope of getting revenge for the death of her mother.
She doesn’t tell Aqua that last bit, however, yet his blissful days of ignorance are about to come to an end. Fortunately he’s got help from his kinda-sorta-real girlfriend Akane to get him through this. Maybe more than he’s expecting as she’s gone so far as to deduce who Aqua and Ruby’s real father might be and is even planning to do something about it. This leaves Kana feeling like a third wheel through all of this, which is likely why she went to a drinking meet-up with a famous director in the hopes of getting a role in his next film that will help her establish a career apart from B*Komachi. There’s no way that’ll backfire on her, right?
Two volumes into the part of the manga that has yet to be covered by the anime, and “Oshi no Ko” hasn’t been as engaging as it used to. That’s mainly down to how the manga is becoming much more serious in all of its various subplots and not offering many surprises to offset the decreased focus on comedy here. This feels like a deliberate choice on writer Aka Akasaka’s part as we get closer to the man responsible for Ai’s death, except it has yet to pay actual dramatic dividends as we go through plots that still feel like familiar showbiz travails. Which doesn’t bode well for the next volume as we’re promised “The Scandal Arc” as Kana’s life prepares to go up in flames.
