Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Part 5: Golden Wind vol. 6
Vol. 5 set up a hell of a situation for Narancia to overcome. With his mouth possessed by a Stand that caused him to say the opposite of whatever he means, he had to convince his friends that they were all under attack. I don’t need to tell you that he eventually finds a way to overcome this, and that a great deal of strategy was involved. As interesting as it was to see play out, the whole situation was starting to feel kind of familiar as far as Stand battles have gone for this series.
Perhaps sensing this, mangaka Hirohiko Araki proceeds to mix things up for the next arc which sees Giorno and company take to the skies in order to get Trish to the island of Sardinia. Before they take off they’re accosted by another Stand user who they easily dispatch. At least, they think they’ve dispatched him. Things go from bad to worse for this storyline as Notorious Chase turns out to be a dead man’s Stand with a simple but deadly power set and the group is put on the back foot once again. Which makes it the perfect time for this Part’s most criminally underused character to show us what she’s really made of.
While that helps distinguish that arc, Araki saves the best for last as we find out that one of the boss’ men has already made it to Sardinia. He’s a hapless dork named Doppio and appears to be no threat to anyone. Doppio is hiding a big secret, however, and it’s likely the only thing that’s going to save him from renegade hitman Risotto. To say more would be to spoil what is one of the more unique, and gruesome, battles in the series so far. One that’s still ongoing as the volume ends and promises to keep the title’s strong momentum going as it starts heading towards this Part’s endgame.
