Klik Klik Boom
Sprout grew up far from prying eyes alongside her grandfather, a doomsday prepper who saw too many bad things in the Vietnam War and has been living with them ever since. When the people responsible for one of those bad things decides to take him out, she follows them to New York for vengeance. While Sprout’s grandfather did an excellent job training her in the ways of war, her quest is complicated by one thing: She’s mute. However, she uses polaroids to communicate with those around her. Which include online journalist Serena Biggs, who’s been investigating the company that the people who killed Sprout’s grandfather work for. Her life is about to become a whole lot crazier, and she’ll make it through if she Doesn’t. Move. From. That. Spot.
“Klik Klik Boom” was written by Doug Wagner, who has shown through his “Materials” trilogy, with Daniel Hillyard, “The Ride: Burning Desire,” and “Beware the Eye of Odin” that he can write interesting characters and kick-ass action scenes. He’s joined here by artist Doug Dabbs, who shows himself to be quite capable of drawing said action scenes. This is all good, but this miniseries doesn’t have anything to offer beyond these primal thrills. It’s an action story where the bad guys get killed in many varied and satisfying ways – nothing more, nothing less. I can see it being turned into an entertaining “John Wick”-esque action movie; but, as it is, it’s just a perfectly decent comic on its own terms.
