There will be no review of “Cowboys & Aliens” because…
While the idea of seeing Bond and Han Solo take on aliens in the old west under the watchful eye of the director of “Iron Man,” the end result seems to have misfired based on the reviews I’ve read. It was probably inevitable when you consider the origins of the comic that it was based on. Or rather, the efforts of one man to try and turn his high concept into a movie by first turning it into a bestselling graphic novel. The “graphic novel” part was easy, but the “bestselling” part had him trying to “game” Diamond’s distribution system to get a number-one ranking on the graphic novels list that month.
Fortunately for us, Rich Johnston of “Bleeding Cool” figured this all out and has handily recounted his experience for us to coincide with the movie’s release. I’ve not heard anything particularly compelling about the source material itself, despite coming from Fred Van Lente of “Incredible Hercules” and “Marvel Zombies 3” fame, but I’m not particularly motivated to pay even $10 for a book that was marketed at $3.99 when it came out (or even given away depending at the store you visited).
